Just as some amateur golfers will happily
pay sizeable fees to play alongside the pros in pro-am
tournaments, among amateur Poker players, there are
some who will happily pay to test their skills against
the big boys.
Few of these amateurs can realistically expect to do
well, but unlike the pros, those who enter have little
or no expectation of making money, even in the long
run. It is reckoned, that out of the 200 entrants willing
to pay the $10,000 fee to enter the world series of
Poker, over half of these are nothing more than thrill
seekers, playing for the buzz of rubbing shoulders with
the likes of Phil Helmuth junior for half an hour.
