Why do people fail to tell the shopkeeper
when they have been undercharged for an item? The simple
answer is human nature and this unsavoury aspect of
human nature exists in Poker as it exists everywhere
else, and each of the following types of minor dishonesty
occur often enough to be worth a mention.
At a table where players play light by allowing by
allowing chips from the pot to be made up at the end
of the hand, it is easy, intentionally or not, to get
confused and draw chips out on one round and put them
back on the next. This happens so often that it is worth
considering never allowing light playing. It is better
to let the player who has run out of chips borrow from
someone else at the table and repay at the end of the
hand.
Routine means of preventing this kind of short-changing
are desirable because people do make honest mistakes,
and when they do they should not be faced with the implication
that they acted dishonestly. In addition, such measures
also have the effect of eliminating the temptation to
act dishonestly.
