Starting a game with a stacked deck is only the most blatant form of this cheating method.

This is done either with the deck pre-stacked on the first deal, or arranging the cards as they are picked up from the previous deal and put on top of the deck. Then using a false shuffle and a false cut, the cards are dealt in the intended order.

There is no foolproof defence against this kind of action, but since it is a players privilege to request a new deck at any time throughout the course of play, it is a good idea to do so after a player wins a big pot and then immediately departs.

This sort of situation is more likely to occur in a casino or a club than in a home game, where a cheating player cannot readily leave the game without having everyone remember that they did so.
