A monster hand, is as the name would suggest, very powerful; a straight flush or four of a kind, for instance. With such a hand, the last thing you want to do is drive out anyone who may wish to contribute, at least for a while. But of course, nor do you want to let people stay in so cheaply that you don’t build the base for a big pot.

It is more lucrative to have five people make an initial £5 bet than for one person to make a single £25 bet. When a monster hand is received, it is ideal to have a lot of callers in the game, players who may improve enough to call your big bets later on. Your strategy should be to inconspicuously lie in wait and conceal your strength for as long as you can.

If it is your bet, your early round tactic is to make a normal sized bet. You should call an opponents bet but not raise. While you may indeed get called if you raise now, it is likely that will also encourage other players to fold. The key to winning as much as possible after receiving a monster hand is to remember that it pays to be patient.
